Givenchy NYFW SS16 Show

OMG, it happened. For the first time ever, Givenchy showed in New York for their SS16 collection. It was epic. Let me set the scene for you: with the Freedom tower in the backdrop, Tisci held the show on a street to pay tribute to 9/11 (the show was held on 11th September). With super famous beautiful statuesque models swanning down the catwalk (apart from Candice Swanepoel who fell…it happens to the best of us, even Victoria’s Secret models) wearing a beautiful collection, with 2,000 ridiculously famous and normal people in attendance – it was the NYFW show to be at. Tisci shut it down.

820 free tickets were released online on a first-come-first-serve basis to us lowly non-members of fashion royalty. Ugh, I love Tisci, he’s incredible. First he makes Donatella the face of Givenchy for AW15, then he releases free tickets to an epic NYFW show, then he puts on the most stunning tribute to 9/11. I’m gushing, obvs, if you can’t already tell.

Givenchy SS16

The collection was super monochrome (take hints for SS16), with lashings of lace and drapery. I mean are we even surprised? Do his glorious creations even stun us anymore? Yes, because he is a creative genius and is the unofficial dresser of the Kardashian-Wests for a reason. The whole thing had a pyjama/nightie vibe going on, but it was also super dark and gothic, very Tim Burton-meets-Jane Austen, which is cropping up a lot at the moment for AW15/SS16. The only downside for me was the shoes, the half brogue half court shoes that looked like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean and kind of made me want to cry and burn them. The masks came out again this season and gave the most pieced man in the world a run for his money, they were super chic though in an American Horror Story kind of way. Overall, though I’m feeling the whole thing and I think Tisci did an incredible job.

You can watch the show on the Givenchy site.
