Make Up Essentials

“I woke up like this”… LIAR. None of us woke up like this. Beyoncé didn’t even wake up like that. This is the skilled work of 30/40 minutes every morning to make sure my face game is strong and plant the seed of envy in the jealous bitches. Make up is not a separate aspect to your look, it’s an outfit elevator, it is the glacé cherry on top of the sundae that is your outfit. Get it? Ok. Now we realise the importance of all those liquids and powders and balms and odd-looking wands and things that look like 1800s torture devices and pencils. But of course there are some products I could do ok with leaving out and some that I would feel like a naked mole rat without…make up essentials – these are the ones I’ll dwell on.

Under-eye concealer

I used to be a devout used of the Nars creamy concealer, then I heard about this drugstore beauty and picked it up thinking: what’s the harm? Well the harm is my Nars creamy concealer has been push aside, neglected because this Maybelline concealer is pretty amazing and makes me look somewhat alive in the mornings.

Eyeliner

The blacker, softer and thicker the better for my waterline and the less chance I have of it disappearing the moment I walk through the door. This is hands down the best eyeliner pencil I’ve ever come across, but the only downside is that it runs out super quickly.

Mascara

I’ve cheated and included two mascaras because after years of search there’s not one mascara that does it all. Benefit’s ‘Roller Lash’ is definitely worth the hype making eyelash curlers extinct and the Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ is…well…the clue is in the name.

Nude lipstick

I don’t do red, don’t even try to convince me, it’s never happening. Nude is more my colour pallette and my fave atm is the Christian Louboutin lipstick in shade 700 – hideously expensive but worth it.

Bronzer

I tend to like to look like I’m not about to die so some warmth in my face is essential. MAC’s ‘Give Me Sun’ is the perfect matte bronzer for sunning up my face.

Setting Spray

To make sure nothing shifts, slides or disappears, a setting spray is a must. I held off using Fix+ for a while but now I get it, I get why everyone gags over it – it pulls everything together seamlessly.

Finishing Powder

I need that glorious matte finish and my fave atm is the Laura Mercier loose setting powder in ‘Translucent’- it’s super silky and does the job.

I’ve heard such good things about the maybelline concealer, I think I need to pick some up asap!

I love the Laura Mercier translucent powder, I swear by it. MAC Blot powder is also good. I’ve always used YSL concealer, maybe I’ll have to give the cheaper brands a try but I always find it hard to find a pale enough shade!
