I always look forward to the Tommy Hilfiger shows because they’re always a bit fun, a bit young and basically make you wish you were in a typical All-American sorority with the models that just walked the show. The Tommy Hilfiger NYFW SS16 show did not disappoint. First of all, the models walked on planks of wood surrounding the tiniest ocean of water with a cast away boat stationed atmospherically in the middle. It was like a deserted island, except that there was hair and make up in abundance and the models were the most well-dressed cast-aways I’ve ever seen.
Tommy Hilfiger SS16
It’s official, btw, as these babies have been spotted on at least three runways so far for NYFW, bucket hats are a thing. Either way, thing or not, I shan’t be investing in one – just trust me on this one, I can’t carry it off. The models were gloriously bronzed and swanned around in crochet bikinis (another trend here to stay), mesh polo tops (I’m dying over this) and cute beautiful cotton day dresses with bright, tropically coloured crochet trimmings. Another sly take-away from this collection is that white was used very sparingly (mainly only on the shoes), and switched out for a powder ‘new born boy’ blue – super different from a lot of the other collections for SS16 (some of which are 90% white). Again, nothing too body-con, too restrictive, nothing that requires Spanx (you can breathe now). Super breathable, relaxed, laid back and I need that bomber (like now…do I have do wait until SS16!?). The footwear was pretty sick – sticking to sliders, espadrilles and sneakers. Beautiful maxi dresses, beach ponchos and coloured mesh cover-ups weren’t forgotten, in-keeping with the slightly Rasta island vibe.
For the finale, all of the models ran into the water and had a splash about – I told you Hilfiger shows were fun…
