The mystery is over. The curtain has been pulled back and the first limited edition So Versailles product line is here. So, obvs, I wasn’t about to come out with a bunch of 2-bit, 1-ply t-shirts that I wouldn’t even wear – I’m not about to market anything I don’t like, I’m not about that sell-out life. Now, these are dashikis, lemme give you the low down: dashikis originate from West Africa, they’re oversized and un-fitted shirts. The So Versailles dashikis are ethically sourced and made in Ghana then printed and blinged up (by moi) in the UK. I wanted to make these a thing because I wanted to merge my west African background with something cool and Versailles (hence the printing and Swarovskis) and also because I think they’re super versatile.
As you’ve probs seen, I wore mine with over the knee boots to the Simply Stylist Conference in NYC last week but these are still hot over leggings, over shorts in the summer, with some killer heels to go out in, with a turtle neck or long sleeved body underneath or even as a khaftan for mindless beach mooching or pool lounging on holidays. See? I told you there were so many options.
So Versailles Dashikis
There are 4 different colourways available and they’re named after West African countries with similar colours in their flag: The Nigeria (White & Green), The Ghana (Black), The Cape Verde (Blue), The Mali (Red & White). Also you’ll notice that there are certain numbers on each dashiki, no two will have the same number, they’re numbered by the number the dashiki is in this edition, 1-18 exist (1 and 2 are mine ;)). These babies are all one size fits all (you can breathe now) which is why I’m obsessed with them as dresses, they’re very Rihanna don’t you think?
