In a nutshell: Kendall became Gigi, and Gigi turned into Kendall, and everyone on the catwalk was Kim. The whole collection was inspired by Kim and her…booty and…#waisttrainerlife. Rousteing is practically a Kardashian by now. Was it my favourite Balmain collection? No, I think I loved the pre-fall collection more, but it’s Balmain so it always finds a way to be glorious but in practice? I don’t need waist-to-ankle frills *flamenco woman emoji* in my life right now (or ever), but here’s my Balmain AW16 review.
Balmain AW16
Before I show you my fave pieces, here’s the low down: we are talking monotonal, lots of suede, some major corsetry and silhouettes to make Sir Mix-a-Lot proud (see the Kim K influence?). That’s pretty much everything you need to know so here are the looks worth loving.
I’m loving the contrast in textures of the fluffy roll neck against the next-level waist training corset of the skirt and I’m a fan of the shape of the top of the corset, which conveniently pushes the tits up so…who needs a bra?
Power mini-dresses to Balmain is like quilted leather to Chanel…never mutually exclusive and always fabulous. As usual, strong shoulders, but this time with beautiful jacquard patterns and embroidery and always with a snatched waist *sassy finger snap*.
Ok, so I’m loving these mesh-mix tops which really mess with your eyes – optical illusions and all that – paired with the sharp, not-to-be-messed-with, shoulders. The look is powerful, sexy and I’m super obsessed with it.
