Chanel AW16 PFW

Sooooo…dare I say, I was not excited. I wasn’t salivating, I didn’t spontaneously begin to sweat upon the sight of these looks, I didn’t call up my pimp to tell him I’m coming back to work (lol), I was really…unimpressed? So what did I think about the Chanel AW16 collection?

Chanel AW16 Review

Of course it’s still nice, it’s goddamn Chanel – stick a couple of CCs on some jelly shoes and hell even I’d wear them…ok maybe that’s too far, but you get my point. It’s just that nothing jumped out at me, even the bags, none of them were calling my name, or whispering seductively that I needed them…because I didn’t need them (I needed Versace). The collection is very classic , very Coco, and that’s super cute and everything, it’s just not the aesthetic I go for. The hats will be a huge deal come AW16 time and I will say I constantly die over the lashings of pearls wrapped around the models (love, always).

However, there was one thing that made me think twice and it’s a bit of a wave passing through high fashion rn: the emoji. Versace did it in their resort collection and have a t-shirt range based on the emoji, they even brought out an app. Now Chanel has adopted those tiny pictures that say more than words *cough* eggplant *cough*…and I kind of love it.

Nestled between camellias and double Cs were cats and thumbs up etc. I’d now like to take back my previous comment my about the accessories underwhelming me as there’s an emoji bag (#NEED) and apparently emoji necklaces (#NEED). The emojis brought it back for me because the collection wasn’t exciting me too much.

What did you think?

I love your honesty and I have to say, I totally agree with you. Nothing grabs me here. In fact, I really dislike a lot of this collection. The fuchsia pink hat in the first pic looks like a button or something I’d grab out of a pick of licorice allsorts (shape-wise anyway). The emoji thing is also jumping on the bandwagon – hardly innovating. Tx

Thanks – haha I agree with your hat comment, that’s so true! I knew it reminded me of something…I must say I do like the emoji thing but as you said, it’s making its way through a lot of collections. X

I agree, I do struggle with Chanel because it all looks so similar every catwalk – I think Karl is stuck in a rut! The emoji thing is cute and a bit more youthful than the usual tweed, still not sure I’d buy it though!
