How to Nail the Trend: Sports Luxe

Athleisure and sports luxe are things now, so get over yourself and embrace the comfort. Sports luxe is a trend that, much like the Kardashian/Jenner family has been creeping it’s way into all areas of the fashion world. Sweatpants and sweaters and sneakers have been adopted by the high fashion ranks and are no longer just for the days you never leave the house or the days you cry on the sofa watching a Nicholas Sparks film. Basically, sports luxe is now a glorious fashion excuse for wearing sweats in public, even Karl Lagerfeld who once said:

“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants”

seems to have embraced a little sports luxe – cashmere Chanel swears and hoodies have been spotted. If you haven’t yet embraced the trend then it’s about time you jump on that SS16 trend train and ride it into AW16 (maybe even a little further). I’ve made it easy for you and broken it down into 5 areas you can focus on to get your sports luxe looking like fire.

How to Sports Luxe

1. Play Matchmaker

Matching is such an easy way to run the sports luxe trend – brand-on-brand is the way to go. Feel proud in a matching Adidas leggings and t -shirt combo knowing you’ve broken the athleisure machine. A subtle way to kill it is taking a leaf from Ky-Jen’s book when she black-on-blacked in a Wolford pair of leggings with a white stripes down the leg and a matching black polo neck. The result? A sleek, figure-hugging, cohesive sports luxe perfection of an outfit.

2. Get all sweaty with it

Sweats are life. Rejoice, for we can now get away with wearing them on the street. Even better? Cashmere sweats. You haven’t experienced true comfort until you’ve experienced a pair of cashmere sweatpants. Expensive for sweats, yes, but they’ll last you way past your own funeral if you look after them and declare war on the moths in your house by kitting out your wardrobe with moth balls (hard work but worth it). Cashmere sweats will inject the luxe into sports luxe and are the easiest sweatpants to style with your regular wardrobe because they give you that relaxed, nonchalant but still killing it kind of vibe.

3. Embrace the sneaker

If you haven’t already, you have to find your sneaker spirit animal- are you a high top? A skater shoe? A Flyknit? A Jordan? A Stan Smith? An Ascics (ew, please no). Tap into your chakra and spend a few hours meditating and looking through your third eye in order to determine which sneaker best speaks to you. Then buy that sneaker and wear it recreationally – sports luxe, nailed.

4. Learn to love the t-shirt

A simple, loose white tee can be worn to every occasion (minus black tie, let’s not get silly) so you have to take advantage of this.

5. Mix it up

Take a regular non-sports luxe outfit of yours, decide on an aspect of it (shoes, top etc.) and switch it for something sports luxe – the easiest trick to smashing the sports luxe trend. Cute single colour dress with sneakers, black blazer/cigarette trousers look with a loose tee, dress topped with a bomber jacket…the possibilities are endless.

They make it look so effortless! I’m not sure I have the right style to nail this trend. If I put on a chunky sweat there’s no way I look glam :(.
